Per recommemdation, I tuned into the premiere of Big Brother last night. I watched the original season but didn't get hooked into the show, so I am a bit out of the loop. I don't know what it is about reality tv that gets me so addicted, but I will be watching next week to see how the season unfolds.
A couple of weeks ago, I gave Glass House a chance. However, there was a guy on there (I think his name was Alex) who annoyed me so much that I couldn't even make it through 20 minutes. He was a whole other level of irritating, and I simply couldn't take it any longer. He is right up there with the entire casts of Jerseylicious, Chicagolicious, Bad Girl's Club, and the Jersey Shore....just a few of the shows that you would have to pay me to watch. (Picture of Alex below)
Okay, so back to BB. I couldn't help but be entertained by the blatant stereotyping that existed on this show. Here are some that just made me laugh out loud.
1. Token Black Housemate
Jodi- She announced she was a newlywed and then clarified by stating it was her first marriage and she inherited 5 step-children. SPOILER ALERT. She was voted off first. I mean come-on the only black person gets voted off first. This does not look good for white people.
2. Nerdy Scientist
Ian- I know plenty of really cool people who wear glasses and are engineers, case in point my dad, who do not come off as completely nonathletic and nerdy.
3. East Coaster
Jojo- When I think of people from Staten Island, this is who I picture. She is very good looking, I am not gonna hate, but she is a walking stereotype of who I would think lives on Staten Island.
4. "Teacher"
The girl who said she is a kindergarten teacher- I was actually offended by this one. She said she listed this as her profession because people would think she was cute, young, and naive instead of sharing her real job as a nurse who has a degree. As a certified teacher with a college degree, I would hate for people to assume I am dumb and easily played. Some of the smartest people I know are teachers. I am rooting for her to lose.
5. Weak Women
How is it possible that every woman on that show was incapable of doing well in the competition? I mean come on! I find myself watching shows all the time thinking I would dominate that task. Who knows; maybe it was harder than it looked to jump from mattress to mattress. My guess is that it was pretty easy.
I look forward to next week where I am sure Willie will stir up some drama. I need to pick who I think will win. Anyone have any guesses?
Thank you Boomer for recommending something to fill my Thursday night schedule because the dating shows just weren't my cup of tea. I mean they had Suh on The Choice. As a Packer fan, I hate him for being a punk and root for him to fail.

I too tried to watch the Glass House...somewhat out of curiosity, but more out of sheer excitement for the upcoming BB season. I really was scared that the "fans" woulda vote to keep Alex in the game because I just assumed that there were enough stupid people out there in the world who like to see desperate people lash out at others/ABC execs desperate for ratings. The world is a better place without this dbag getting his 15min.
ReplyDeleteI'm glad you enjoyed your Sociology lesson disguised as BB. The inevitable drama is interesting, but the strategy in the game play I think is fascinating. Do u try for the HoH? Who do u align with? Do u make it public or try to keep it a secret. Who do u vote for? So many decisions. I wanted to try out but Amanda wouldn't let me. I think I woulda been cast as the Ian character, or maybe the Wil, haha.
I've got my early money on Frank. The floppy hair can go a long way. I think the coaching aspect is kinda corny this season, but if it brings Dan back then I'm cool with it. He was awesome in his season - the total social game with the physical game package. He's a terrible terrible chooser of teams though, haha.
I'm glad Jodi left. She may have been the only black chic but she seemed kinda lame. I hope she enjoys her 5 step kids that she mentioned 8 times in the episode...
I'm glad I could fill your Thursday night timeslot, but I hope you're Wed and Sun nights could use some excitement too because, oh yes, it's on 3hrs a week!
