What happened to Tuesdays?

During most of the year, Tuesday is by far my favorite day of television. However, what happened to the line up? I watched one show last night, and to fill the time my husband and I watched some DVR material and the Brewers/Cubs game. I used to have to make choices between 90210, Glee (I think this moved to Thursday now based on previews), Biggest Loser, American Idol, Last Man Standing, and others I am sure I am forgetting. Last night, all I had to watch was Masterchef, and it was only an hour show since only five were left. At least some my favorites are still on the show.

In order to watch tv the only way that I love, with fast forwarding, my husband and I watched an episode of Feherty. For those of you who are asking yourselves "What is Feherty?" it's basically the man version of a talk show. Feherty used to be a professional golfer, and he interviews people. From what I have seen so far mostly golfers, but in a review of past episodes I saw that he interviewed Charles Barkley and Don Cheadle (sp?). He is from Ireland, has a thick accent, and his interviews are really entertaining. The last two episodes we watched were with Bubba Watson (Before his Masters win) and Graeme McDonald. My husband started recording the show because I think he felt my smut/garbage tv was filling up our DVR. Little did he know I too would enjoy watching. If you haven't watched it, you should. It makes me feel better that I struggle severely with golf when I hear pros talk about having days when they too struggle. Also, Feherty is a really funny guy who does some crazy stuff. I'm including a picture from the time he interviewed John Daly and had a golf ball teed up and hit from his mouth. You couldn't pay me enough money to do that!

Afterwards, Masterchef it was. SPOILER ALERT...I am so sad Monty is gone. Although I question anyone who names their son Danger, I loved her! I am sad that she got sent home over something as simple as adding heavy cream and cutting a fish wrong. In my opinion, I thought Josh should have been sent packing...again. It is clear that Gordon Ramsey is in love with Josh. I like him too. In fact, I think the best chefs are left in the competition, but I thought he made the weaker dish. He too cut the fish poorly, had 5 instead of 4 servings, added food to his plate, and he had the advantage to choose the dish. Seems to me they made the wrong choice. My favorite chef left is Frank. I am incredibly impressed with Christine and what she can do, but I think Frank is the best all-around chef. Becky also seems to be skilled but she seems a bit full of herself and I don't particularly care for that. Is it just me or does she look like Silver from 90210? Check out their pics and tell me you don't agree...

I mean come on....they are identical twins.
P.S. Who cares that celebrities ate those dishes? Do Oprah, Obama, or Jay-Z have magical taste buds? Pretty sure they don't. I would have been more impressed if say Emeril, Wolfgang, or Morimoto came in and said that was the best dish they ever had. They would know.

Now that Monty is gone, I am pretty convinced it's Christine's competition to lose. They love her and her story and she seems to be a great cook. We'll see.

Fingers crossed that my Tuesdays fill back up because last night was just plain disappointing.

Bachelor Pad 3

I am going to go out on a limb here and sound like Chris Harrison when I say last night's episode was "the most dramatic rose ceremony ever"!! People can hate on Chris all they want, but he pulled the move of the century. When I watched the previews last week, and during the show this week, I kept thinking what is the twist going to be. Never in a million years would I have guessed that Erica Rose would turn the game upside down. For the past two seasons, I have hoped a moment like this would happen to change the game up and break an alliance. FINALLY someone stood up to the power group and took them down. During the first season, "the couples" ruled the house; during the second season, Vienna and Kasey, ruled the house. (By the way if anyone missed the news story about Kasey he is currently serving time in jail for huffing and getting into a fight at a bar....what a winner!) This season Michael was indeed running the show, until Chris came along.

As the show started, Chris was really getting on my last nerve as he complained that his friends turned against him. It's a game show to win money. People lie; get over it. Another favorite part of the show was when Kalon made a jab at Chris about not winning Emily. Ouch. Then as the show progressed perhaps the most awkward moment other than every single second of Jamie's Bachelor/Bachelor Pad history, was when Ed was questioned about any romantic interest in his partner. What woman would ever find this man attractive? I'm not gonna lie I was a little shocked that Ed was making out with Jaclyn and sharing a bed with her, but to flat out diss her in front of everyone instead of having a conversation first. Have some tact. Next week promises to add more fuel to this fire. Then comes Stagliano's plan to get rid of Chris and Erica.

I just can't get over how clutch that move was by Chris. Everyone tried to get him out and instead the head of house goes down. It was amazing. I am sure people are annoyed with Erica Rose but she has always been one of my favorites; I don't even know why. Personally, I wouldn't have hated it if Blakely would have gone home. She is right up there with some of the most irritating personalities. If she were my partner and screaming in my ear during that teacup competition I would have dropped the plates and told her in much more colorful words to "shut it". All in all, last night was everything I hoped it would be and more. Also, these women who fall apart when their partners/love interests get voted off make me sad. You are there to win money. They didn't die. You can see them after the show and date in a normal setting. Get over it. Nick, who rarely utters a word, was right on when he said his new partner is "a widow". Judging by "reality" tv most women are crazy and most men are jerks who use women.

Can't wait to see what happens next week. Do the contestants not remember how to win the game? If I were in the house, I would keep Chris and Ed around. That would increase my chance of getting the money because no one is going to vote for them. I am rooting for Lindsey. If that means Kalon also wins so be it, but I really like her and hope she stays around.

The Next Great Foodtruck Race

If you didn't catch the last two seasons of this show on the Food Network, make sure you check it out. Last night was the first episode of the second season and the cast is compiled of food truck virgins. Their menus range from waffles, southern style seafood, seoul food, pot pies of any kind, italian food, and recipes from nona's kitchen. All of the teams travel around the country selling their food, competing in various challenges that effect their menus, and hope to win the grand prize. Last season there was a grilled cheese truck that I wanted to find in Milwaukee at food truck fridays, but that never happened. I would love for the competition to come to a city near me to taste their creations, but I'm pretty sure the season already ended so I'll have to keep watch for next year. I haven't picked my favorite yet, but an early favorite is Seoul Sausage. They seem to be pretty chill dudes who know what they are doing and were one of two teams to actually profit on the first challenge. My least favorite group is the Barbie Babes from Australia. I think they are banking on thieir looks more than their food and I just don't think they have a chance. Either way, if you like food competitions you should definitely check this out.

The Glee Project

On Tuesday, I found myself deep into a Glee Project marathon on Oxygen. I knew I had missed the season, but I figured they would have a marathon at the end which would enable me to fast forward through commercials. So, starting at 9 am I tuned in to see who the next stars of one of my favorite shows would be. For those of you who haven't ever heard of this show, it's pretty interesting. I love to see how people are cast for the show, and every episode there is a performance video. I never in a million years would have the amount of talent it takes to act, sing, and dance, but I like the idea that average young adults have the opportunity to openly compete with others for a role. This way they shouldn't have any question as to why they weren't chosen, or who could do better.

From the very beginning I LOVED Blake. I thought it was his competition to lose. He looked the part of the "high school quarterback" and next hearthrob. I was a little shocked when Shanna was sent home because I actually really liked her and loved her voice. She reminded me a little of Kelly Clarkson which was ironic when they had her sing one of her songs to stay on the show. Ally grew on me toward the end because of her personality. Her voice reminds me a little of Kristen Chenowerth (sp?) which I don't really care for. Too high pitched for my taste. Then there was Ayline. She had a great voice and could definitely act. I rarely am shocked with the results of reality shows but this one got me. I mean I did pick Blake from the beginning but I felt like his voice wasn't up to par with everyone else's. Also, I thought the two ladies would really add something new to the show because Ally actually is permanently in a wheel chair and Aylin is Muslim. Maybe they get a cameo??? I couldn't believe one of those two didn't win over Blake. I think he is perfect for the show, but I just was a little surprised he won. Anyone else watch??

In the end, I am just excited for the fall and for my "real" shows to start again. Too much reality tv in my life right now.

Bachelor Pad 3

I cannot believe this is the first time I am writing about this show, but needless to say I couldn't avoid it after the happenings of last night. There are times in my life when I get embarrassed by watching something on television. Last night, Jamie and Blakely just gave a bad name to women. I mean those two are an embarrassment. Jamie, I know there are women who fall in love fast but this guy is living in the same house with you and sharing a bed with another girl. Then he takes Sarah on a date instead of you. Where does that convince you that he's a great guy who really treats a woman well??? You thought he was just being nice? You couldn't wait for him to come home to you? HE'S NOT YOUR BOYFRIEND.  It was painful to continue to listen to her talk about how great he was non-stop throughout the entire show. How bad did a guy burn you in the past that you are that desperate to pine after Chris?? She makes women look crazy.

Blakely does not help this argument. She is over the top controlling. Just pick a new partner already and stop following Chris around. What is the obsession with this guy? He isn't even that great. He seems like an average looking guy, but he is such a douche. He openly plays on girls emotions on television. How is that working for you in real life? What girl with any self-respect would want to be with this guy? I liked him at the beginning of Emily's season, but toward the end he got possessive and weird. Not a fan.

Also, can we get some more air time for Kalon, Lindsay, Michael, and Rachel?? It's like they aren't even in the house. I know the preview for next week shows them, but usually when someone gets a lot of airtime they are sent packing. I don't want them to leave yet. If all is working out, Chris should hit the road next week.

London Olympics 2012

The past two weeks I think my tv has been working in overdrive. I cannot get enough of the Olympics. As a former high school athlete, with little to no competition left in my life, I ache for sports. The Brewers have not been helping my cause this season, so the Olympics brought some much needed excitement. I decided to wait until almost the end to share my thoughts. I have a list of observations/questions that I've compiled for the past two weeks.

1. I do not enjoy watching diving. I just cannot stomach people diving so close to a concrete platform, or the occasional glimpse of a butt crack because God forbid they added an inch more of swimsuit. Would more swimsuit ruin the dive? Do they have to be so tiny?

2. If you made it to the Olympics for archery, how do you not hit a bulls eye every time? I mean you are supposed to be the best in the world. I play darts with people at a bar who can hit the bulls eye non-stop. Shouldn't Olympiads be able to always hit it? Do they have flying objects in front of the board?

3. Gymnastics. This is one of my favorite events by far and the only time I really see any gymnastics. I remember going to a college meet and thinking to myself "this isn't what it looks like on the Olympics". Those women/men are so good it's ridiculous. However I do have some questions...1)who came up with the pommel (sp?) horse? 2)Why do all gymnasts have tiny voices? 3) How do they make deductions? I mean that vault by USA was AMAZING but she lost points...how??? 4)How many of those athletes have arthritis/severe knee problems today???

4. Soccer/Water Polo/Basketball.....I am tired of the flopping!! I don't get soccer. I never played it, and I only watch it during the World Cup and Olympics because there is just not enough scoring for my taste and too much acting. I have never seen so many grown men and women fall and complain and then get up and sprint down the field. LAME. I noticed the same thing in water polo. They always look like they are faking a foul. Buck up and take it for the team. Unless you have a torn ligament, broken bone, or dislocation stop laying on the ground.

5. Water polo....One other note here. What is with the wedgies on all of women? I mean are the swimsuits made to ride up their butts? Personally, I could never play water polo because I can tread water for about three minutes and then I get tired, but the swimsuit alone would drive me bananas. Is that how they are supposed to fit?

6. Kayaking...Props to these people. I was impressed watching this event and realize I would never have the guts to try an event where it is possible to tip over and ride upside down for some period of time. No thank you.

7. Tennis. I saw a lot of great matches, but NO ONE dominated like Serena. She was on fire. It was embarrassing for anyone who played her because she was in the zone. Congrats to Andy Murray. Did anyone else think it looked like Federer gave up or was it just me? He just looked like he wasn't in it. And....how is Roddick still a pro? I have backed him for years, but I am losing faith. He just doesn't look very good. Maybe he should have kept Mandy Moore around.

8. Dumbest rules....Only two can compete from a country. Isn't the idea of of the Olympics for the best to beat the best?? If so, then the best should qualify.  If your country doesn't get represented, then you should train harder. False starts. I ran track in high school and your nerves are ridiculous. All the pressure is on you and a great start is HUGE in sprints. I don't like the new rule. I know it didn't really affect anyone but I still don't like the change. (The USA runner who got knocked down should have been given a second chance...so sad :o( )

9. Events I just couldn't get into...No matter how hard I tried some events just couldn't pique my interest. Dressage, Boxing (I saw enough fights when I taught in MPS), Table Tennis, Weightlifting, rowing, Shooting (Could anyone even see the clay figures? I never could), Rhythmic Gymnastics, Cycling, and Marathon. Those are just some that quickly lost my attention.

10. Favorite Sport. Volleyball. I cannot get enough of volleyball. I don't care what country is playing, who is playing, where they are playing. I love watching volleyball. Those people hit the ball so hard it is amazing. My personal favorite is Destiny Hooker. Man that girl can pound a kill. If you haven't caught a USA indoor match, you should! Next Olympics I think there should be a volleyball channel. I would watch it all day long.

All in all, this was a phenomenal 2 weeks of television even though I have many gripes with how poorly NBC covered the games. Fingers crossed that ABC gets it next time so my Good Morning America crew can host. GO USA!!
